Peachcake
In their first four years together, Peachcake went through more
than most bands go through in an entire 20-25 year career (eat
that, U2). After their formation in the deserts of Carefree Creek,
Arizona, the duo's quest to do something positive led them to release
an EP on Jim Adkins from Jimmy Eat World's label Western Tread.
In its well-received wake, as perhaps is the nature of things,
Peachcake, aka Stefan Pruett (aka Space Panda) and John O'Keefe
(DJ JohnO) found themselves suffering a slew of unfortunate incidents,
unfair arrests, accidents, arguments, and ultimately, death.
With a followup full-length more than two years in the making,
the band found themselves ultimately at a high, playing sold-out
shows to fans of all ages, being the first-ever band asked to play
Burning Man, and getting noticed by the press. URB Magazine dubbed
them one of their '100 Artists To Watch,' they were featured in Alternative
Press and Soundcheck Magazine, and 944 Magazine said, "Peachcake
is a musical benediction in pajamas." Despite their sudden
success, the band would deal with some of the most trying obstacles
while this was all happening. A run-in with the wrong booking agent
caused DJ JohnO to literally disappear for two months, and in September
2007, the shocking death of Stefan's little brother Alex (Peachcake
keyboardist) caused the duo to put down their swords and unite,
with more passion and inspiration than ever before.
After the death of Alex, the band decided to take things into
their own hands, finally buying themselves out of their own record
contract, in order to self-release their ultimate creation and
beacon of hope and positivity, What Year Will You Have the
World? out Nov. 18, under The Planet Awesome Creative Collective/Subtractive. |
