Air Traffic Controller have created a place all their own in the indie pop world.
Serving in the US Navy as an air traffic controller, singer/songwriter Dave Munro sent home demos written during deployment to his friends. Band-mate and singer/songwriter Casey Sullivan met Dave soon thereafter, and the two forged a collaborative bond that has become the vocal sound of ATC.
With an eclectic song catalog and category-defying organic/electronic sound, people are taking notice of ATC. They were 2015 Billboard Hot 100 Fest performers with The Weeknd and Justin Bieber, placed on the NPR Hot 100 List for SXSW, named Guardian UK Band of the Day, won Best Indie Alternative Song for “You Know Me” in the Independent Music Awards, and have over 20 million spins on Spotify. ATC’s music has been licensed by Bose, MTV, NBC, ABC, Disney, Verizon, Toyota and more.
The band started 2016 with showcases in Park City at Sundance with ASCAP, Toyota Music Lodge, and Cisero’s. They followed this up with their first Sixthman Rock Boat cruise with bands like Bronze Radio Return, and Jukebox The Ghost. An Official act at SXSW 2016, ATC played showcases for McDonalds, the Grammy Museum, and was featured on Jeff Regan’s Alt Nation playlist of bands to watch at the festival.
Air Traffic Controller’s multi award-winning third album, BLACK BOX, was released on March 11, 2016. This album features “People Watching,” “On The Wire” and “What You Do To My Soul,” and won three Independent Music Awards (Best Indie/Alt Rock Album, Indie/Alt Rock Song, Producer). The music video for “The House” has won and impressive number of awards including a Boston Music Award, Improper Bostonian’s “Boston’s Best” Music Video, as well as the 2016 New England Music Award for Best Video. The House was also an Official Selection in the UK at the 2016 Raindance Film Festival Music Videos Programme. The entertaining music video has been named by Boston Magazine as the best video for 2015, and has been in rotation on MTVU, MTV2, and on the homepage of Funny Or Die.
Support for Air Traffic Controller has come in from all over. Vanyaland in Boston calls BLACK BOX an evolution forward featuring “crafty alt-pop, an expansion of depth and sound, catchy hooks,” and describes the song “Warrior” as “a pleasantly brooding, mystic-pop thumper.” One Stop Record Shop in the UK states “the album is equal parts fascinating and brilliant,” while “combining flecks of CHVRCHES with the indie vibes of Pulp and a smattering of Death Cab For Cutie.”
Songs from BLACK BOX were featured by SXSW 2017, Gary Vaynerchuk in the Daily Vee, EA Sports NHL 17, the UK’s top reality show Made In Chelsea. At radio, WXRV and WERS had multiple songs in rotation, songs have been played on Top 40 Mix 93.3 in Kansas City, KX 93.5 in Laguna, CA, KCSN & KXLU Los Angeles, WLCA Illinois, WHSN Maine, KXTE Los Vegas, KTCL Colorado and more. CLIF Bar, Quiznos, and Boston Harbor Distillery have asked to work with Air Traffic Controller, as well as MyMusicRX out of Portland, OR. On the road ATC played over 100 shows in 2016 including Summerfest, WXRV’s celebrated annual Riverfront Festival, Ann Arbor Summer Festival, Denver’s Beaver Creek Music Experience, the North Face 50th Anniversary Party, Boston Music Awards, and the year-end celebration as a headliner at Boston’s First Night, New Year’s Eve on Copley Square.
ECHO PAPA is the brand-new ep from the band due out June 23, 2017.
Once again, this album finds both lead singers Dave Munro and Casey Sullivan delivering another evolution of the band with mature lyrics and exploring new topics that are of the moment. On the new single
“After Party” – written shortly after the 2016 election – Dave Munro calls the song a peaceful protest, “We are proud to live in a country that encourages opinions, debate, free speech, even protest. All of us want our nation to be the best it can be and it is not un-American to have something to say about the state we’re in. This new song is a protest, but we hope, in the spirit of ATC, it will bring people together. If nothing else, it has a really good groove!”
Air Traffic Controller is from Boston and features:
Dave Munro, Casey Sullivan, Steve Scott, Adam Salameh & Adrian Aiello

Indie Alternative Band, AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLER, To Release New EP and Tour In Support
(New York, NY) Air Traffic Controller, “a sonorous mix of bright, edgy sounds” (Culture Collide), will release their new EP, Echo Papa, 6/23/17.
The Boston-based quintet, comprised of Dave Munro, Casey Sullivan, Steve Scott, Adam Salameh and Adrian Aiello, have racked up a long list of accolades since forming in 2009. Most recently, the 2016 album Black Box – and its lead single/video, “The House” – received three Independent Music Awards, several Boston Music Awards nominations (and one win), and more. In addition, “The House” has over 2 million plays on Spotify. The band played over 100 shows in 2016 alone, including the famed Summerfest. Previously, they performed at the 2015 Billboard Hot 100 Fest, alongside The Weeknd and Justin Bieber.
Echo Papa’s first single, “After Party,” “a thumping electronic-pop track” (Vanyaland) with “groove laden guitar licks, and a swooning melody that you’ll be sure to fall head over heels for,” (Music Box Pete) was inspired by and penned as a metaphor for the results of the 2016 presidential election. Lead singer Munro explains, “We wrote this song back in January, trying to express our feelings about this out of control political climate, which feels a lot like a drunken after party. How did we end up here? Is this even politics anymore, or are we in some sort of post-party reality-tv free for all?”
With the release of Echo Papa, Air Traffic Controller are poised to make 2017 their most notable year yet.
