Sir Woman, Austin Music Award’s “Best New Act of 2020,” was primed to hit the road promoting its much-anticipated debut album, Party City, when the world changed. With fewer reasons to celebrate, soul-singer Kelsey Wilson (Wild Child, Glorietta) ditched the party vibe she planned for her maiden, solo debut in favor of a more aptly titled record for troubled times.
Bitch, a genre-bending, Motown-influenced five-song EP, is set for an October 16 release under Wilson’s acid-trip inspired stage name on Austin’s Nine Mile Records. Wilson’s backing band — drummer Amber Baker and back-up singers Spice and Roy Jr. — were joined on the album by guitarist Nik Lee and multi-instrumentalist Dan Creamer of The Texas Gentlemen and critically acclaimed country-pop artist Robert Ellis.
But make no mistake, the Wild Child co-founder has stepped into the spotlight alone with this collection of love songs she wrote for herself as the perpetual party of touring life started to spin out of control.
“This EP is me finding what makes me feel good and falling in love with myself. A mix of everything that makes my body move — pop, soul, gospel, funk, folk, and R&B. It feels so right to make a record that has my actual heart in it,” Wilson said. “These songs are the part of me that wants to help people fall in love with themselves through music. I can’t wait for everyone to hear it.”
Consider that evidence that Wilson is “moving effortlessly into a brave new R&B-infused, gospel-flecked world where her golden pipes ease you back into a fluffy pillow of serenity and bliss,” as NPR critic Gini Moscorro proclaimed.
Sir Woman is set to celebrate the EP’s release with an October 23 live-stream performance from Austin.
WILD CHILD CO-FOUNDER KELSEY WILSON
RETURNS AS SIR WOMAN
ANNOUNCES DEBUT SOLO EP;
SHARES NEW SONG, “CAN’T STAY MAD”
BITCH EP ARRIVES OCTOBER 16 VIA NINE MILE RECORDS
Austin-based singer and Wild Child co-founder Kelsey Wilson is excited to announce her debut solo EP under the new, acid-trip inspired stage name, Sir Woman. Her Bitch EP will arrive October 16, 2020 via Nine Mile Records and to herald the announcement, Sir Woman shares the new disco-inspired song, “Can’t Stay Mad.” The song premiered earlier today via American Songwriter, who praised Sir Woman for her “passion and playfulness.”
“‘Can’t Stay Mad’ is all about warmth, sensuality and humor, “says Wilson. “We laced it with string and horn arrangements to rival the classics of 70’s disco. We wanted to combine new and old school so that it feels like it’s from the future, but it’s always been around.”

Since embarking on her solo project in 2019, Sir Woman has released three infectious singles (“Highroad,” “Speak” and “Making Love”), performed a Pop-Up Session with KUTX and shared numerous covers and music videos, including a lockdown inspired, crowd-sourced video for “Making Love.” The soulful, confident, groove-infused tunes have already struck a chord with listeners, earning the award for “Best New Band” at the Austin Music Awards this past March.

BITCH arrives via Nine Mile Records on Friday, October 16.

PRE-ORDER BITCH EP
BITCH was first unveiled last month with the disco-fueled first single, “Can’t Stay Mad.” The track premiered exclusively via American Songwriter, which praised Sir Woman for her “passion and playfulness,” adding “The BITCH EP is the opposite of forlorn. It’s not a spell weeping into the wind. Instead, it frolics, skips and saunters. Wilson is bright. You can tell she smiled while belting the lyrics. She wanted this music in the world.”

Named “Best New Act” at this year’s Austin Music Awards, Sir Woman is celebrating today’s release of “Bitch” with a custom 14k gold plated “Bitch” necklace, available now exclusively via her Bandcamp. Twenty percent of all proceeds will benefit The Marsha P. Johnson Institute (MPJI) and their mission to protect and defend the human rights of Black trans people. Known of course for her role as soul singer, violinist, and songwriter in Wild Child and the acclaimed supergroup Glorietta, Kelsey Wilson unveiled her acid trip-inspired new solo persona in 2019, stepping into the spotlight alone with a collection of confident, groove-infused love songs she wrote for herself as the perpetual party of touring life started to spin out of control. Sir Woman swiftly released a trio of infectious single, including “Highroad,” “Speak,” and “Making Love,” the latter joined by a crowd-sourced quarantine video streaming now via YouTube.

Sir Woman further heralded her much anticipated debut album, PARTY CITY, with a wide range of additional activity, from a stripped-down “Pop Up Session” on Austin’s KUTX to a breathtaking cover of Bill Withers’ classic “Just The 2 Of Us,” streaming now at her official YouTube channel.
2020 saw Sir Woman primed to hit the road celebrating PARTY CITY but of course, things changed. With fewer reasons to rejoice, Wilson decided to postpone her exultant solo debut – now due in 2021 – in favor of a more directly emotional record for these troubled times. The genre-bending, Motown-powered BITCH sees Sir Woman joined by her crack backing band – drummer Amber Baker and back-up singers Spice and Roy Jr. – along with talented friends including guitarist Nik Lee and multi-instrumentalist Dan Creamer (both of The Texas Gentlemen) as well as critically acclaimed country-pop artist Robert Ellis.
