A BRIEF HISTORY OF… THE MINUTES
Chaos reigns. We’re underground, after midnight; in a rough part of Dublin. A black basement bar, leatherette seating spews foam padding; boys stand on chairs to make their point of view. At end of the room, on a tiny stage; The Minutes are playing. The audience are close, very close. This is band and fan interaction bordering on hand-to-hand fighting. Singer Mark Austin peels another swamp-sodden lick from his guitar; his black Fred Perry soaking with levels of perspiration Ol’ Freddy could never have imagined on Centre Court. To his right, bass player Tom Cosgrave pummels his four strings into submission. Behind them; simian sticksman Shane Kinsella discovers a new twist on the old “Waiter / Fly…” joke as he finds A Girl In His Drums. In a moment of calm, at the heart of this perfect storm; Mark turns to Tom and says: “maybe we shouldn’t have given everyone shots before the gig?”
Welcome to the world of The Minutes.
Born in Dublin in the mid-Noughties, Mark and cousin Shane recruited Tom, finding common ground on The Smiths, NYC punk rock and Thin Lizzy. The band invested in some serious vintage amplification and a classic power trio sound sound started to emerge. Cojones the size of cartwheels and the horsepower to deliver.
Channeling the primal surge of rampant garage rock ‘n’ roll with elements of the blues and gospel; The Minutes have honed their craft on the Irish gig circuit and beyond. Support slots along the way with Supergrass, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and The Von Bondies have helped introduce them to audiences bored with identikit Indie and hungry for something more urgent and direct. 11 gigs in 3 days at 2010′s SXSW festival cemented The Minutes reputation as gig-thirsty tour monsters with the tunes to match the swagger.
The Minutes will release their US debut as a self-titled EP due out February 14th and showcase their talent at SXSW 2012. The songs on the EP were recorded under the auspices of Kevin McMahon (The Walkmen, Titus Andronicus); recording old school direct to magnetic tape, eschewing the Pro-Tools digital set up favoured by most bands.

Born in Dublin in the mid-nineties, Mark Austin (Vocals, Guitar), and cousin Shane Kinsella (Drums) recruited Tom Cosgrave (Bass) to round out a trio bound together by family ties and their common love for late 70s NYC punk, The Smiths and Thin Lizzy. They invested in some serious vintage amplification, honed their skills playing every dingy basement and back alley bar in Ireland that would have them, and began to cement a reputation as gig-thirsty monsters with tunes to match their impressive swagger. Audience interaction resembling the energy of hand to hand combat became the trademark of their shows and won them support slots with Supergrass, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, and The Von Bondies. They bring their live show to the US this Spring at SXSW 2012.
Already much adored in their native land, they made their first foray across the Irish Sea to England this October, turning heads with the release of their first UK Single “Black Keys”. “This debut booms, bangs and pulsates from the first note,” write The Sunday Times, “boiling over with a sense of urgency.” Artrocker has heavily endorsed them as “The greatest rock ‘n roll band in Dublin,” and a 5 of 5 star review while Q Magazine tipped the single as one of their “Essential Tracks to Download” in their December issue.
