Ghosts of the South. The artwork for Richmond Fontaine’s seventh album features a map of the South-Western United States. Which means you can follow around the hitch-hikers, illegal immigrants and penitent drunks in their songs, although anyone who’s heard Bruce Springsteen’s The Ghost Of Tom Joad will feel on familiar ground. For, like The Boss, Richmond Fontaine vocalist Willy Vaultin – a novelist himself – pens lyrics heavily inspired by John Steinbeck whilst the musical landscape of pedal steel, country guitar and occasional Tex-Mex brass is as fully fleshed and finely detailed as the characters adrift within it. Richmond Fontaine - Thirteen Cities, released 05 February 07 on Décor. Read members' comments related to this album.
